Little Cutesy Kitten - Support you local Animal Shelter

Please support Ethical Animal Shelters in your area by adopting a pet or providing donations to help these organizations. After all every pet deserves to be cared for and loved. There are numerous ways of helping.

This is my little Blue Point Himalayan kitten Dustin who is still so weeble wobbly when this was taken. He is extremely loved and cherished. Sadly some animals are not as fortunate as Dustin.

As long as I live I will never understand how man can hurt beautiful defenseless animals. Animals are very special. Pets provide unconditional love. I feel that they are extended members of a family. They help to make a home happy. It sickens me to know that people do not take care of them like they should or abuse them. There is absolutely no reason for an animal to end up in a shelter or even worst abandoned somewhere. People need to realize that an animal is not an object to be discarded. They are a living beautiful creature and they feel pain. They are not a possession. In many ways they are like a child. They rely on us to keep them healthy and safe. Now really how hard is that?

Before getting a pet please do your research. Pets need to be vaccinated on a yearly basis. In my opinion they should not be left free to roam where they might come in contact with other animals that might be carrying diseases. I have received so many emails and phone calls about sick animals and it breaks my heart. Many of the pet diseases are tragic. They ultimately result in a painful death.

Overpopulation is a major contributing factor for animals ending up in shelters. There is no reason for that. People need to be educated that if an animal is not spayed or neutered and free to roam, the result can be unplanned and unwanted litters of puppies or kittens. These little fur bundles will need homes. They will need people to love and care for them. Some will be lucky enough to get good homes but perhaps some won't. It would be tragic if they end up going to a shelter. How would you feel to be caged and abandon? Being responsible is a pet owner's job. I have very strong feelings regarding this - there is absolutely no reason for puppy mills or kitten mills in any form be it breeders or just or your average person who thought it would be nice to have a litter of puppies or kittens. Reputable "breeders" will have a spay/neuter agreement in the contract of adoption and will enforce it.

Know what to look for when getting a pet. How can you tell if an animal is healthy? Handle it - it should have good muscle tone, a clean coat, and bright, clear eyes. The pet should not be sneezing or sniffling. The mouth should be free of any soars and the gums should be a healthy pink. The eyes should be free from discharge and its ears should be clean and pink inside no black looking waxy build-up. There should be no bald patches or short stubbles of fur or signs of dry scaly skin. Check behind its ears and low on its back, at the base of the tail, for flea dirt which looks like black sand.

How can you tell if an animal is well-socialized? Play with the pet using a non threatening toy, such as a feather or ribbon or ball. After a period of normal caution toward strangers, the animal should relax into a friendly, active and playful attitude. Many perfectly friendly dogs or cats would rather play than be held; however, after becoming acquainted with you, they should let you hold it for a short time.

What should you do after you bring your pet home? When you bring your kitten, cat, puppy or dog home, make sure you follow the instructions you may have been given carefully. Making the transition to a new home can be very stressful for any animal. Changes in food, water and overall environment can cause minor ailments, even in healthy pets. Hopefully the person or shelter you got your pet from will be responsible and inform you of the pet's diet and give you a little food to take with you. Generally it takes about five days for the animal to adjust to his/her new surroundings.

Love and cherish you new family addition. In return you will get unconditional love back.

Please support a legitimate ethical shelter in your area by adopting a pet, making a donation or volunteering. You can make a difference in an animal's life. The reward is priceless♥
